Thanks to the NFA of 1934 and the GCA of 1968, there are several steps required before you can own a suppressor. These steps appear to be somewhat cumbersome, but they’re actually not. Like most things, once you understand what each step entails, the process is rather simple. This page will get you started on how to begin your process! Already know which suppressor you want? Skip down to step 5.
1. Why should I get a suppressor?
Suppressors offer a reduction in the decibel output of your firearm, in some cases to a hearing-safe level. Not only is noise pollution cut down significantly, suppressed guns are generally more pleasurable to shoot.
2. How long does it take to get a suppressor?
Wait times can vary depending on demand. Currently, customers are waiting anywhere between 6 and 12 months for hardcopy paperwork to clear. Utilizing the ATF e-forms system can greatly reduce wait times for processing. Currently e-form processing approvals are averaging around 90 days. See the link below for more information.
3. What do I do while I wait?
In appreciation of our customers, if you purchase your suppressor through us (transfers excluded) you will be able to check out your suppressor and use it on our range while you wait for your Form 4 approval from the ATF.
4. Which suppressor should I get?
Like the answer for many questions in the firearms world, the correct suppressor is dependent on a variety of factors, wants, and needs Check out Gun Digest’s article below or come in and discuss with one of our Sales Associates for assistance.
5. I've found the suppressor I want. Now what?
A. Come in or give us a call to order your suppressor of choice. Be sure to ask about the appropriate suppressor adapter for your setup.
B. Once the item arrives we will notify you to come to the store to start the process. If you are utilizing hardcopy mail-in forms we will generate those for you in house. If you are utilizing the e-forms system, we will get you scheduled for a time to come in and create/certify your form 4. (You must already have a registered e-forms account. You will need your e-forms login and PIN to certify the paperwork).
C. Decide how you’d like to register your suppressor (Trust or Individual).
D. Let us handle the paperwork.
E. Once approved, we will receive notification, contact you to come in and close out the process, and take your new suppressor home.
6. How much does it cost to buy a suppressor?
A. In addition to the actual price of the suppressor you purchase, there may be additional fees associated to processing your Tax Stamp.
ATF tax stamp is $200 (Paid to the ATF and mailed with hardcopy form 4; or $205 paid to us for e-forms processing)
